What’s your attitude about life and business?

I’m out here this morning taking a walk around and noticing how beautiful a day it is, listening to the bird’s chirping, feeling the breeze and seeing the blue sky.

And then it brings me back to the thoughts of what’s going on in the world right now we have riots going on, we have protests or what they want to call protests going on and then the bickering politicians.

Like a bunch of children that are mad because they aren’t getting what they want.

It’s crazy and there’s nothing we can do about it.

The reason I bring this up is that in life, we have only one thing that we have control over and that is our own internal thoughts our own internal attitude.

And attitude is everything.

You can join the protesters or be like the looters, or the whiny politicians, but where will that get you?

When you trying to accomplish things online, or in your personal life, or in your business life, it doesn’t really matter, our attitudes are what makes a difference in whether or not we’re going to be successful or not.

If you don’t then, you’re really in trouble. You are at the starting line, the race has begun and you don’t know how to run the race.

That’s the first thing to need to understand. We all need a mentor, no matter where we are in life.

If it’s something you have no experience doing, then without a coach you will spend years trying to master it.

When we were kids growing up, learning how to walk, learning how to ride a bicycle, learning how to play baseball or, soccer our parents were there to help.

If you wanted to play the piano, you needed a coach to learn how to play.

We needed teachers to help us learn how read and write. The list goes on and on and will continue the rest of ours lives.

So why is it so hard to recognize that you need help from a teacher in order to build a business online?

That’s what I’m talking about today.

If you are going to be successful online, then you need to find a system, a program, a mentor that you can follow that will help you go from where you are right now, to where you want to be in the shortest period of time possible.

If someone is used to providing project leadership and overall project responsibility under a PM title, certain expectations are set. If the next opportunity doesn’t provide the same opportunities and expectations both the organization and individual may experience issues. Likewise if someone is in a lower level position where they simply schedule meetings and follow-up on action items, this individual may develop an inappropriate perception of project management. Remember, a true PM is responsible for all aspects of the project, including management of scope, time, cost, quality, procurement, human resources, communication, risk management, stakeholder management, and integration. I’d even take this list a step further and involve the PM in scope discussions during business development. It’s never too early to involve the person responsible for high stakes efforts.

Other pet peeves of mine are a lack of analysis and a lack of communication skills. Project management isn’t about producing reports or documents, but managing to ensure project success. Project data is necessary to ensure success, but without analysis and interpretation it is strictly administrative data. I’m also often amazed at the lack of communication in project management. Strong PMs spend eighty to ninety percent of their time communicating. This doesn’t mean just forwarding emails, but providing impact analysis and recommendations. And my final pet peeve (for this posting!) centers on improperly handling situations by escalating all items or informing all parties of all developments. This goes along with communication. Determine your stakeholders and how you will interact with those stakeholders. It may be easier to copy everyone involved, but it’s not about what is easy.
